I had a wonderful experience learning to make shokupan and melon pan with Satomi. The class took place at her home, which made it feel truly authentic and welcoming. I loved the balance between Satomi demonstrating each step and then letting me practice right away. Something I really enjoyed was learning about Satomi’s baking journey, goals, and interests. For a foreigner like myself, taking a cooking class is more than just learning how to make shokupan. Cooking is a gateway to learn about a person and their culture. I would encourage her to continue to share her stories and connect with her students. Overall, I had a great experience. The class was well organized, easy to attend, and very detailed oriented. I would highly recommend for any skill level.

Honestly there is nothing that I felt could have been Improved on, Satomi san is an excellent teacher. I thought it was an excellent class. Satomi san made it feel very approachable, especially for a range of skill levels. She provided a lot of good information, and was also able to answer a lot of different questions. We had the privilege of taking the Melon Pan class with Satomi-san! I was deeply impressed by her professionalism from the beginning. She was always in constant communication with me and gave detailed information about the class and directions to her home. Satomi-san was very knowledgeable not only about the process of baking, but in the science of the ingredients! As a teacher and baker. I appreciated this information! We spent the wait times, (while the bread was proofing), chatting and getting to know each other— which made the experience much more meaningful! I cannot recommend Satomi’s class enough! We chose to bake Shokupan (milkbread) and Satomi walked us through the process step by step carefully describing every move. Additionally, she shared crucial tips for the perfect baking! She printed out the recipe and steps so we could take notes meaning that there is no need to bring anything with you unless you want to use your own notepad for some reason. There are naturally waiting times between kneading, proofing and baking but we didn’t have any problems filling them chatting about baking utensils (she told us where to buy everything) and sharing our personal experiences. At the end of the class we tried the bread and it was delicious! Satomi let us take one of the loafs which was the perfect afternoon snack for us! After the class we went buying the utensils and we can’t wait to reproduce it at home.

The bread making class with Satomi-san was an incredible experience! Her knowledge and prowess in the kitchen really shone through. She was very kind and inquisitive throughout the class, and we had a good flow of conversation from start to finish. She has a real passion for baking, and she offered much insight into what she has learned over the years. I really enjoyed my time in the class and will definitely rebook when I come back to Tokyo!

We really enjoyed the class very much! Me and my friend took a class on how to make a Japanese Milk Bread and Satomi taught us all the nuances and showed us the process in detail! In addition, Satomi is very kind, generous and lovely person with whom it was very easy and interesting to talk throughout the session. After the class we took with ourselves the recipes and the bread we made. The bread was so delicious! Huge thanks to Satomi for such a wonderful experience! Definitely recommend to take this class with Satomi 🙂

It is our first time to have cooking class overseas and Satomi truly has made our experience so memorable. She explained the steps in details so we understand the reason for each step. She also shared her knowledge based on her own experience which is unique as well as giving us the extra tips which cannot be found online. I am a novice self-taught baker, and this was my very first in-person baking class. I decided very last minute to sign up, and it was SO worth it. Satomi is very friendly and knowledgable, and I learned a bunch about Japanese culture and bread baking in general from her. When I returned to the US, I baked both shokupan and curry pan for a couple physicians who I work with. They both are Japanese natives and absolutely loved them! I think that says a lot about how great of an instructor Satomi is. Thank you so much, Satomi!

Satomi is so nice and knowledgeable! My husband and I wanted to learn the techniques of bread making so we had lots of questions. Since bread making depends highly on the room temperature, humidity and the different types of flour and yeast, we got lots of good knowledge from Satomi. She’s patient and passionate about baking.
